Painted Desert Sheep The Painted Desert Sheep Society defines Painted Desert Sheep as originating on Texas Game ranches by crossing Mouflon, Rambouillet, Merino, Texas Dahl, and Texas Blackbelly. The colored varieties of the above breeds produced hybrid, spotted coat individuals originally called "Parti-dalls." The unique name "Painted Desert Sheep" was coined by hunters looking to add these sheep to their trophy rooms.
While looking for a breed to complete or foxtail management, I stumbled across these beautiful animals. PDS are hair sheep, meaning they require no shearing. Their hybrid background makes them sturdy, disease tolerant individuals ready to do some work for you. Why just have weeders when you can see these guys out in your pasture? |
